Jimmy,
you could air layer a couple mame off this over a period of time. It may or may not yield championship bonsai, but it will give you loads of practice with layering and with elms in general. The pic shows you three from one. Elm will bud out on old wood so the original trunkline should give you something to work with in the future. Most budding will occur from the pruning wounds. I have a few twister elms that I am going to be doing the same thing to this coming spring. Learn as ya go. Paul
