An Elm literati that i used to have

this is the first tree that worked for me as a bonsai. I took it from an old hedgerow and after wondering what to do with it I decided to go for a slanted literati. Thats was back in 1986 and this is around 1988 after a couple of years training. I didnt have any proper training pots and so would make my own. I did a litle wiring but preferred to use ties and string, also using weights tied to some of the branches.
I kept this tree for a good many years before having to part with it; wish I still had it!

Oh and I'm not looking for a critique of this tree, that would be pointless as it sadly no longer exists. Just showing that I have a little experience in bonsai.

Larry, excuse my ignorance, but how exactly are you showing us this?

Honestly confused...

Gday Larry!

Will was not being argumentative. If I am reading his question correctly, I suspect he's just wondering how you are able to show us a picture of a tree that you no longer own. My guess is that it is an old photo (circa 1988) taken before you and the tree parted ways. I hope this all makes sense in the morning...

Larry, I was wondering how many parks may be in your area that may have mature elm trees. In my area I could dig up a couple hundred trees like that under mature elm trees in a few hours. In fact the dividing strip on some of the roads around here have elm trees, and the small seedling grow right in the gutter amongst the dirt and little gutter water. I'm sure you could find some decent seedlings like this in a few hours if you tried.

He didn't say to do it without asking for permission first.

for a start, that elm literati was my first ever experiment in bonsai. I did manage to get some better styling on it but have lost the photo.

Al, I moved up here 3 years ago and am still finding my feet. i have a local park and i did get 2 silver birch sap, lings from there in 03, with permission from the gardening staff( I was one of them)
My ash in the mini bonsai area was a seedling that appeared in my old garden before we got this house. I'm still learning so its good to have free material to practice on.

Flybri, I believe that Will is being argumentative because I got an email notification of a reply of his that didnt appear on here, and it was quite aggresiive in tone!
