more than one year later....

Hi Charles

I was searchin for BurtDavyi and here is your tree.
I have some of them too, good strain for bonsai.
After seeing your olifant (afrikaans) I think you was inspired by penjing.

I was playin around and here you have a dare design (or two). Not for instant bonsai, of course, but I suposse that in your Florida climate they will grow better than in my mediterranean climate.

Basically you make an airlayer, but don't be eager to cut him, let grow the new roots.
When you cut, you have a lot of roots to overgrow your base, fusing with old trunk, and helping to heal the big scar aftercut grafting if you put above some roots.

Or you can decide too, if you prefer to have two olifant babies .

Only an idea...

ok

I don't include the new roots of airlayer in the pics
in the first pic I cleared the area peeled for the airlayer
the other pics show how it can be restyled, using the top with same front or virtually with back.

Sorry but now I have not time to virtualize, I hope you understand as is.
