I will pray for the tree! Slow down people, give trees like this some respect. Very surprised to hear of someone working a pine so soon after collection. Normally you wait for at least 2 years to allow the tree to get used to potted culture and to put out some roots.

It sounds like he know what he is doing so it will probably be fine but why rush it?

Anyway good technique and photos!

Newt

Newt,

Believe me... the tree could not be in safer hands. And no one... could respect ancient trees more. Two years would be a waste of a year. Generally one year is enough... if it was collected by someone who knows what they are doing. Daniel gauges what he'll do by the reactions of the tree to it's treatment. If it is pushing growth vigorously, he'll be less concerned. He's very aware of their subtle signs and changes which tell him to proceed or not.

He wasn't in a rush... hence we only adjusted some of the overall structure, while leaving the foliage alone. But if you have worked on material of this caliber, you'll know that setting that structure is a slow process to get it to take... so time is of the essence.

Glad you liked the technique and photos.

Kindest regards,

Victrinia

1fine,

I think thats a lovely idea! I'll have to look at the tree this weekend and see how it would take to such a notion. But it would be a lovely way to compliment that structure. Thank you for the virt/demo... I appreciate it.

Kindest regards,

Victrinia

Vic,

The weaker limbs aren't being shaded. And I am careful to keep them directed toward full sun. The lower limb on the stronger and taller trunk actually extends from the back to slightly to the side and front of the trunk. It is also the strongest and apparently healthiest of the lower limbs.

I really don't see much of a solution for the lesser trunk and crown but to remove them. To me it is really distracting. I hope to pot it in a slightly larger pot this weekend.

I intend to take some better shots with a better backdrop shortly as well and I will post them. I really believe the tree has a lot of unrealized potential. I'm really focused on health and am not in a hurry to "style" this tree. Whatever I do, I want to be sure about it.
