Which direction would you go?
This Juniper was collected in April of this year. (I included some pictures of the collection)
While I have no intentions of styling this tree until maybe next fall. I'd like to hear some thoughts on what this tree might look like in the future if it were yours. Pictures with the blue sky were taken today. Patrick |

i think the option you were thinking of is quite good. Firstly, it has a very distinct shape which i think that the design you were thinking of will be possible and achievable. Having only been doing bonsai for 1 year and only have 1 juniper i am not saying that my advice is expert advice but from experience, i think it is best to wait and see how it goes, you will be suprised what shape it may take, direction it may grow.
I think wait until next fall or even dont rush in straight away (take it slowly and give it one more spring so you have more to work with) that way you wont have to unwire it shortly after wiring. I am in Aust. and in spring because of the climate my juniper grew like crazy. I definitely think that what u were thinkin of is a smart move. I would be interested to see its progress! |

You should go to Walter Palls gallery and check out some of his designs. There are several trees of his that have a similar trunk shape and his design choices are good but different, not the least, --- be easier to achieve than that which you have proposed.

Thanks Vance, good idea.
I like this one (Walter's Pine) and it has similar movement. Who knows, things can change alot in a year. I'm just a little bored I guess. Things are slowing down here in the Northeast, U.S.. Temperatures at night are in the 40's F and daytime highs are only reaching the low 70's. Other than the daily tropical shuffle in and out, not much Bonsai to be done. Patrick |

Patrick,
Take alook at Si Diao carving site of Master Cheng Kung Cheng, you have a very good candidate for carving and "compression". John (www.sidiao.com .

I agree with Todd. Nice drawing. Great idea. I like the example you posted of the Walter Pall tree as well. This has potential to be an excellent tree in a few years!

21 months have passed since I've posted anything about this tree.
Its come a ways but still has many more years to go. As you can see I've done some wiring and I started last fall on the carving. I've worked on this tree a couple of times under the guidance of David Easterbrook and I'm quite pleased with its progress in such a short amount of time. This fall I hope to add more detail to the carving and extend it a little further down the trunk. Patrick |
