This is the tree today. Now it needs some more refinement within the next days.

Karl from Vienna, Austria thinks that this is the future of this tree.

Also the other side is not too bad either.

How do I get such material?
Well, either very high up in the Alps or you find a historic place.
In April of 1945 when WWII was really lost a long while ago some tried to protect the Reich in what they called 'Alpenfestung'. Alpine Fortress. This were some valleys surrounded by steep mountains. There they waited with their tanks and other gear in the forests for the enemy. They could not care less about ecology and ran allover the mugo trees. We all know that it did not help a lot, but they sure have created wonderful bonsai material that way.
Today I find the most bizarre trees in this area which have survived the disaster.

I really like the "second front", Walter. It's got a kind of character that is very appealing. However, the long jihn shows better with the first front.

Interesting about the Nazi's making nice bonsai material, lol. The things nature will thrive through...

It is pretty interesting! At about the same time bonsai stock was being developed in Germany, Japan was ripping ancient pines out of the parks and forests surrounding some of the Imperial villas. Why? To reduce the sap down into fuel for the aircraft!

http://www.nis.go.kr/eng/north/society54.html

I wonder how many landscape trees it took to make a single gallon of fuel? If I had to guess, I would think it would be a couple at least.

Regards,

Matt
