Thanks for the nice photos and descriptions Mr. Brian...I believe you are going to have a lot of fun and rewarding experiences with the holly and cypress that you chose...

In agreement with the Crow, the ficus is a very nice, unusual, piece of stock, and I would be honored to have it grace my garden...I do however find the bunjin #17319 to be the most interesting tree of those pictured...I am not particularly fond of most bunjin style trees but this one really speaks to me...

I have often made the statement, "If you want good material, make friends with the owner of a landscape business"...I think Jason has found a great co-business in landscape and bonsai nursery...Looks like he is making the best of a good business partnership...Lots of stock and a good resource...

Thanks to both of you for sharing this with us...

Regards
Behr

Great trees I'll have to post pictures from the bonsai center Heidelburg here. I would have to agree with the bunjin as being truly inspiring I have a hawthorn I was thinking of giving a like shape.

Brian , I just wanted to thank you for taking the time to not only coming to see me , but also posting up a few of the pics you took . Im sure it took a bit of time out of your schedule for posting all these pics so next time you come to see me , lunch is on me !
As far as the pics that are on here , most are works in progress but are coming along swimmingly. I hope that in the coming years my shop will have some very nice finished stuff , but ill always have plenty of rough stock for all yours ,and others, designing needs !
Thanks again Brian .It was a real treat meeting you and your wife !

Ahhh..the illusive hunt. I love the first visit to a new nursery. I can relate to the "loose in the candy shop" feeling that Brian must have had. Nice work Brian, and thanks for the update, Al

Has any of you very experienced in bonsai with hundreds of specimins ever thought about setting up your own? I'm only 17 at the moment but have plans for the future where i ultimatly start up my own nursery over here in england. I've noticed that i could plant hundreds of seeds now at only a few pence each and in 10 years time i could be the proud owner of a small establisment. Now i just have to get there.

Yeah, Alasdair. If I had a few acres of ground, I'd be planting all the time.

I will have to stop by your nursery next time that I am in the area.

Thanks for the pics Brian.

Is that Ilex really $250? (based on the tag)
It sounds a little steep to me for a very rough stock like this. Nice nebari though.

Alasdair,

Making something you love into a businesss can turn out badly, or it can be your true calling. It's mostly a 50/50 shot.

The bonsai nursery owners that I know don't get vacations, have to scrimp to make ends meet in the cold winter months and drive a 87 Chevy van. They have nightmares about their gas bills for the greenhouses in the winter and losing nursery stock in the summer. Bonsai nurseries are alot like farming. It's a 24/7-365 job that can break you and your bank account.

Of course it would probably beat a day at the office anytime...
