I've just purchased a bottle Daconil fungicide- ready to use spray and am a bit uncertain about its composition. I will use it to spray on my chinese elms. Q: is this liquid supposed to be thick and milky white. Please answer

Sounds OK to me. I'm not sure I've ever used daconil, but I've used several fungicides and "thick and milky-white" would describe more than one.
Just be sure to follow the manufacturer's instructions on dilution. And I'd advise you to use latex gloves: many fungicides will cause a reaction, from a skin rash to something worse.

Hello afn.,,,,Yes, definitely wear latex gloves, cover all exposed skin and wear a dust mask. Fungicides can be quite toxic....Also, obviously do not spray in a windy area or indoors. Might be a good idea to wear safety googles if it is windy.
p.s. I believe I used a different brand of fungicide a couple of years back and if I remember correctly, it was a milky white sustance. Rob |

Yes it will be thick and milky white, even when diluted.
Shake/mix well. Richard Ota said it was good for needle cast on JBP. |

Why is the tree infected by fungi? Due to moist environment. So if the tree don't get wet at night time, it will reduce the chance of fungal infection (I'm talking about primary prevention
). Bonhe |

Yes, thick milky and white. Once mixed though its more like skim milk. One tablespoon per gallon will do. Make sure you buy 29% chlorothalonil as some are weaker and won't do the job. Ortho makes Garden Disease Control which is like Prince, "formerly know as" Daconil. It even says that in the right hand corner of the label, or did at one time, FORMERLY DACONIL. This is good stuff. I use it on everything from tomatoes to bonsai. It won't kill you, just use normal precautions.

it depends on the product..if its pre-mixed by manufacture you should have no problems....
unless there is a used by date and its years passed....then it should be ok. what kind of fungus is it by the way?...powdery mildew?...copper fungus? |

My elms seem to have what is called black spot fungus - the leaves turn a spotted yellow-brown, then turn burnt black, curl up and dry out. I have the misfortune of having sprayed the tree with water because I thought I had insects, which, unfortunately spread the fungus to two more of my elms. This is a left over from last year when I sprayed with copper which did nothing. The trees are better this year with only a few leaves tuning black and drying out. I'll keep on trying and will keep you up to date.
