What a tree! I have been dreaming of such a tree. John, if you ever want to trade it in for something else, please let us know. I want first dib on it. Do you need a really really big ficus nerifolia?

The first thought that came to mind when I saw this tree in leaf was "Jurassic Park". It's definately big enough to be part of the exhibits there. Good luck, John,

Hi John, I tried to PM you yesterday but it wouldn't take attachments somehow, so I just submit the pictures here. It is one of my ficus nerifolia that I had for about 10 years now. The canopy is 4 feet tall and 6 ft. wide. The root base is about 2 feet wide. You can see some small surface roots on top, but just below that, all the roots are fused together solid! At 6 inches above the base, the trunk is about 6-9 inches wide depending on which front you look at. The taper is poor though, because I was aiming for a wide banyan style in the beginning. The branches are a bit long now, but they would make great instant multi-trunk bonsai with airlayering. It is too big for me now. I can't even move it by myself. I will send you some pics of my large California junipers too, if I ever figure out how to attach pics to PM's.

Have a good weekend everybody!
Si

Si's tree

Splendid tree, Si!

I must admit to a twinge of envy. Here in zone 5, our willow-leafs don't get that big before the owners die of old age.

I think chopping that hard with the ficus back would be bad, it seems to work so well as a broom..

Hey KingKong, that's the money! I do like it! That's certainly one good option, maybe with longer branches on that sketch for a less piny look though. I could have chopped it back hard like that years ago when there was a big scar in the middle of all those branches, but now that scar is completely healed over and it would be a shame to open it up again. So I think now this tree is destined to be a broom style banyan. The branches do have to be chopped back some though. It's too tall. The wide width is fine. Thanks for the comments Redpine and Treebeard. I am sorry I hijacked John's Big Baldie thread. I am trying to sucker him into a trade here ! Now that Baldie is an American masterpiece waiting to happen!

Good night!

To keep the thread on "quality" north american species alive here is a Cypress collected in 2003. Ready for a repot and branch work, I belive it is in a 32" pot. John
