Cypress stump- collected this winter

Hi here is a cypress stump that we collected in Louisiana this winter- I can almost pick it up (bare root) - it will have a 36.5-37" exposed root spread and is currently 48" tall. So if it were in your back yard and you had to deal with it? I'll post some of the odd ones we collected a little later. John

Hi Vonsgardens,

Simply - Wow! This has the makings of an exceptional tree. The trunk is superb. The taper is excellent. All that you need now is an apex and branches lol.

Why can't I find anything like that?

Congratz and good luck on developing what I am sure will be a specimen tree on day.

All the best,

Aaron

Actually, we were digging at the end of a week of rain- almost 12" to be exact, so all of the tagged trees were under water. We used the standards- a saw, a rope, a chainsaw (it was 40+ feet tall) and chest waders. There were 6 of us and it was all we could do to get it out.

Oh, I forgot to add, a 3/4 ton four wheel drive and a long set of chains, etc. And yes, as with all collecting trips we had permission.

Nice material John. The taper is very dramatic. should be fun to style as it buds out.

Good luck with the pot to hold that thing It will either break you financially, or physically when you try to pot this one up.

Thanks for the input, we have a pot for it- 48x32x8. This will be a true "6 man tree". I can carry the pot, I can pick up the tree, I can carry the soil, but LOL not all at once. I am seriously discussing hydraulics or perhaps an electric winch and rail system- like one I saw in a magazine- maybe from Harry Hirao's for transplanting his junipers....

We collect these every year- I believe it to be an addiction.
