Crape Myrtle

Hi All!
My mom decided she didn't want this Crape Myrtle in her front yard anymore, so I dug it up for her. Anyway, I'd love to have some feedback on it - wondering if it's worth the effort. It has a couple of awkward looking roots...make's the tree look like it's a man sitting with his legs sticking out! Should I remove both or just one? The trunk is 2" at top and aprox. 3" at the base...not counting the "legs". Any and all suggestions welcome!

Koi Gal, was it worth the effort? I'd give it an undeniable yes!!!

As too the "legs", not really a problem at the moment. I have a myrtle with similar large roots, thought about cutting them off, then thought about the scaring left and future of the tree so I left them.

Heres a link to the thread I posted about my tree, it may be of help to you.

Scare the opposite side and put some rooting hormone on it. Cover and see what transpires. It may be a few years before the new root(s) catch up, but the longer you wait, the longer before it CAN catch up.

Either that or buy a very young crepe and do an approach or thread graft in the area you think it needs the new surface root. This might be the fastest way.

Hi Koi
Very much worthwhile in keeping it.
Nice trunk section and would be very nice when you develop the top
As for the roots, you could try to do some root grafts on them to improve it. I am trying this on several that I have that cam from Air layers i performed

Keep us posted
Ken
