Collecting A ?
I found this growing along a local railroad track. I took a bad shot of the trunk because it actually has some sharp movement right at the base and the nebari at the soil line looks promising.
But, I have no idea what it is. Any thoughts? I will likely need to collect it soon as well since this part of the track is sprayed with ground clear yearly during mid-summer. |

Neither the bark nor the leaves look like Carpinus caroliniana to me. (And I've got some growing wild on my property.)
I've seen this species around here, but am sorry to say I'm not sure of its identity. My best guess is some kind of elm.
