collected yews

As promised, here are the pics of the trees I dug from my in-laws yard in upstate NY. The second tree didn't come with many roots, but I'm still optomistic. That's a 1.75 l wine bottle in the pics for perspective.

I will be interested in the progress on the yew. My son just bought a house with about 10 of these that he's already talking about removing...I told him I might know someone who'd be interested ;o)

Please keep us updated.

Hi dave,
I cannot wait to see what you do with these... If they come out anything like the trees you brought to the last workshop which were spectacular. I may be asking you if you will sell me these too. lol .

Dave can you post pics of the yew and that pine you brought to the workshop. They are absolutely incredible trees in training and should be shown.

p.s. The front that you picked for my japanese garden juniper in the last workshop worked out beautifully. I posted it yesterday and credited you with picking the front.

Thanks, Rob. I'm not quite ready to see these trees move on with someone else just yet . If I see you tonight at the workshop, I'll show you the holes (deep blisters really) in my hands that are just beginning to heal. After the effort to dig these, I feel that these trees owe me at least a few years enjoyment (If I am lucky). Any way, I'm glad you like them. I'll hopefully get pics of the other trees soon. Take care,

Dave

Nice score, Dave! I noticed some of the branches are missing. Did you trim these off last season or several seasons before digging?

Gloves are cheap...

Talk about kickin' a man when he's down! I'd post a pic of my hands but it isn't for the faint of heart. ...Honestly, I was so eager to get them out of the ground, I didn't even think about gloves until the damage had been done.

Anyway, I should have mentioned the trees' history when I posted. My in-laws have been there for 30+ years and the yew hedge was already there. About 10 years ago, my father in law tried to kill the trees by cutting them back to about 10" above ground level as they had outgrown their space. All he did was induce some great back budding which the deer have routinely trimmed back. Thanks for the comments,

Dave

Baby that #2 Dave it's nice, the others aint so bad either.

These are something more of us should look for, talk to some local landscapers these are being yanked on a regular basis, then off to the landfill.
