Thanks for the additional replies.

Tom, if it is a privet and I've never seen it flower . . . is that because it's young still (about 3 - 4 years) or because it's a variety that doesn't flower?

Anyway, it's in the pot now, so I'm just going to see what happens for this year. It's a fairly large pot with lots of room for new roots to develop, so maybe it won't slow down too much in any case, at least for awhile.

I'm tired of being patient but that's ok, now I have time!

Seems to be the best guess so far, although as I said this has never flowered (but maybe it's simply too young still). So I guess I'll run with it unless I find something better.

It's 7-8 years before they flower, minimum. The flowers are right on the ends of the branches - so any pruning and they're gone.

Okay, thanks. This one is only 3-4 years old, so that would make sense.

Hi Lehket. I have an older privet that has never flowered. However I have a small three year old volunteer (european privet) that flowered last year. Really pretty little flowers. Hopefully it happens again this year.

Bridge,

Very nice. Thanks! I can see the foliage in that first picture well enough to be convinced by now that that's what I've got. Not that there was much doubt left.
