Collected Jerusalem Pine.

Yesterday I want searching for an Oak (Quercus calliprinos) in Jerusalem Mountains.
I did not find a suitable oak tree, on my way back to my car I did fined this beautiful Jerusalem Pine, It is an old pine, probably it was run over several times by passing Jeeps.

I had potted it in a growing box as is, I did not touch any of his roots or branches, and I hope it will survive the collecting and potting shock.

Moshe,

Love those collected pines. I picked up a few Lodgepole and Western white pine on a collecting trip last year here in California. I get a great deal of satisfaction working with native conifers, especially those in growing in difficult conditions. What is your plan if it makes it? I see a literati in your future...

Best of luck with this one,
Ian

Hi Carmi,
I like your Pinus halepensis. I have a very young one myself, but is nowhere near as interesting as yours. I like the fact that your tree has a low branch since it's hard to get low branches on old pines.

It's probably a good idea to keep it out of direct sun until it starts growing.

Regards and good luch with the tree,
Attila

Very nice acquisition Moshe! Something different from the usual Olive of which you have many beautiful and unusual bonsai! I too would like to see what you do with this pinus! I like the view and movement in# 2 photo, a potential front? They have Oak trees in Israel? I have 3 oaks and a couple of squirrel plantings that have popped up in my grow beds this spring! Oaks are very common here in California. What other natives do you use?

Thank you all,
Ian, my plans for this tree is keeping it alive, I have killed many Pines, and have only two alive (more than two years) but I had learned a lot and I hop to keep this one alive too, it is a beautiful tree with a lot of potential for bonsai, the pictures are not flattering it.
Attila, I did not know that you can get Pinus halepensis in California, BTW, the Jerusalem pine was named after the old city of halpo or today Haleb in Syria, it is astonishing as it is very rare there, the common Pine there is Pinus brutia, the Pinus halepensis is very common in Israel.
Lesley, we have at least three kinds of native Oaks, the Quercus calliprinos – the common Oak, the Q. itlaburensis - Mount Tabor Oak and the Q. boissieri – the Tolla Oak, which is mentioned in the BIBEL.
There are a lot of other native trees - or at list growing in Israel for few thousands years – some of them are: Olives, Pomegranate, Carob trees, Oaks, Pines, Cedar of Lebanon, Ficus, the Mimosaceae Family, the Pistacia Family, the Prunus family and the Rhamnus family.
We do not have any kind of Squirrels

Hi Cris,
Yes, don't mess with them they are two needles pine and they do not make good bonsai, unfortunately they (or similar pines) are the only kind available in Israel.

A (very rough) virt of a possible future as a somewhat windswept literati style of course you might want to leave a little more foliage on than I did but this kinda gives you an idea of what I mean. This is just an idea it IS your tree I hope you do whatever you want to bring out the image that YOU see in this tree. Nice stock though man.Keep in mind that I am not good at virts, but hey, I try.
