Chunky Bald Cypress

This is a bald cypress I just received. Trunk chopped and sealed. Bare rooted. Trunk base sawed flat. Potted in grit/muck/soil combo and topped with my bonsai soil mix.

12 oz. can for size reference. Photo of tree potted shows it sitting on 16" cement blocks.

It needs time to grow and recover. Then, a new lead will be selected and taper carved for a new apex. Needs lots of time, water and fertilizer....but then again, don't we all....

Hi Don,
Any live roots on the flair or are the roots from between the flared roots? Looks like a southern tree, was it just dug? John

John, there are live feeder roots on the flair. There are also a lot of fine feeders between the flairs, along with some .25"-.5" smaller roots covered with feeders. I think the flair will take off as is. I also expect it to put out more roots along the lower half or so of the flair as it gets hungry. Time will tell. And, yes, it is from Leeziana.
