Chinese Juniper Broom
Hi all,
Yesterday my new Chinese Juniper arrived. I was quite happy with it, especially as it only cost me £13.50 delivered (bout $25 USD). It stands 9" high and had a spread of 10". The Tongrae pot measures 6" x 4.5" x 1.5" Heres the pictures taken about 1 hour ago, and then a few more after I got busy with the wire. I've opened up the structure a lot more, and re-routed some of the secondary branches away from the top, to help develop the rear and sides of the tree, with the aim of re-developing the thick foliage as before, just over a larger area. The spread now is close to 14" A step in the right direction? Would welcome and appreciate any input. Kindest regards, Aaron |

You have made an improvement! But personally I do not like seeing junipers styled in the broom style. I think that is better for decidous trees. When the branches of a juniper come off the trunk and go up rather than down it appears young (in my eyes). Nice juniper! Will be nice to see how it develops over the years!!!

Trunk Collector

Hey Aaron,
Nice little Juniper. I think this is the first attempt at a broom with a juniper that I've seen. My understanding of a broom, though, is that the primary branching pattern is very regular. Trunk branches into two nearly equal branches, each of those branch into two nearly equal, which then branch into two....etc. It's probably not possible to do that forever, but you might want to think about establishing two branches from the main trunk, then working on two branches from those primary branches. Or, I may be wrong. I dont actually have a broom myself. I'm trying to get a couple started though. Cheers Brian |
