bonsaiTALK Hint: Did you know you can double click any bonsai term on this page for its definition?

Karls virtual with th removal of the lower branches really balances the tree. I find the sharp curve near the middle top half of the tree very dramatic and distraction a bit especially with the lower branches kept. Once the lower branches were removed the sharp curve in less noticable. If you can't remove the lower branches then I think you have to tilt the tree slightly to the left because of the sharp bending in the middle of the tree. It might take some of it distractiveness away from the eye.

Just an idea

I like the lower branches removed also but.....

I think I'd leave them on for a few years and let them grow without pinching and see if they thicken the trunk a little more.

I'd be patient with this one.

Thank you Gajin,

I am really tempted to go with a literati, but I don't feel it has a strong enough candidate for the character branch. If I had another tree of the same quality I would definitely take off the lower branches!

Your from Hilversum? I was there last year watching the TNT Dutch Open (Golf!). My sister lives in Utrecht. It is a lovely place, and near Lodders!! You are lucky!

Regards,

Mark Morris
