Chinese Elm Leaves...problem?
hi guys
a few of the leaves on my Chinese Elm...i had noticed a sort of neat but squareish holes on the foliage. sort of a "Grid-like" appearance.... its Mid-Summer in this part of the world. could this be a parasitic problem or fungal??...... i also have a praying mantis on this tree guarding it from aphids etc. could it be from the mantid pinching the aphids with its jaws, causing a neat puncture in the foliage? or could it be this time of the year that leaves start to do that. im sure it isnt the result of burn....the other leaves are very healthy and pure green in colour...... i shal take a snapshot of it soon thanks |

Mantids don't eat aphids. Mantids eat larger prey. APhids aren't worth their time. Your leaf problems are due to some form of leaf eating pest, possibly beetles. A little more investigation will probably turn up the culprit.
