Chamaecyparis pisifera 'Blue Moss'

Just wanted to share the latest transition for this tree...I posted it in the gallery last year. I really like the species but it is difficult and time-consuming to work with, in that it requires constant pinching , coupled with thinning out of the interior branching to help prevent dieback - all because it is reluctant to bud back on old wood, if at all.
I find that the periodic addition of a little magnesium sulfate (Epsom salts) to my fertilizer mix during the growing season really helps to bring out the pretty blue color of the foliage. The tree's current height is 25 inches from the soil line.

Regards,
Tom S.

Magnificent tree you have. That is a lot of detail work you have done.

Like I said on IBC - very good work with a tricky tree and very evocative.

Keep seeing pictures like this.

Tell me if your fed up Tom.

I really like this tree. It's very evocative of wild open space or coast, not unlike the Monterrey Cypress on the West Coast of the U.S.

To open it up even more, have you though about a shallower, longer pot, on that's half as tall and twice (or a little less) as long?

Thank you all for your input and kind words...Rock - I like your idea regarding another pot choice...food for thought, indeed. You are right also about the Monterey Peninsula....I get a lot of my inspiration from that coastline - someday I hope to experience its magnificence in person Tim - I really like your virts.

Regards,
Tom

I agree with the rest of the gang that this is a very nice tree.

I'm not sure of the picture angle -- If you shoot a little lower, would you see some more ramification under the foliage?
