Cast-offs.

Hi everyone,

A couple of months ago my brother-in-law (James) decided to have a clear out of his bonsai. He lives 180 miles away, by the time I had arranged a trip, these were what he had left to give me. Funnily enough, I had secretly coveted several of the ones he gave me. You may find out which ones later

The first one, fagus sylvatica.

James assures me that the leaves on this one have never been big, reaching about 3/4" long at the most.

This next is also fagus sylvatica.

It is pretty battered about, current styling has been achieved via the farmer's machete hack 'n' slash method.

Nextly, ( ) is a rowan group, sorbus aucuparia. James said he was fed up with the constant whips shooting out as soon as he looked away for 30 seconds...

Another beech. This one came from a "general exhibition stand" maker. Apparently they have a large stock of trees in pots that are easily portable, to give their dispaly stands some live foliage, instead of that plastic stuff that is so often used at exhibitions.

There is a major trunk-chop on this one, but it is masked by the eye-poker, so that is OK

I already have (had) vague plans for some of them, but I would be very interested to hear what others would do with such "marginal" stock. Any suggestions welcome...

BTW the words "trash", "fire", and "grow-box" are off limits... unless you are REALLY persuasive

Regards,

TB

Hi Treebeard,

Tell this scrooge of a brother in law that you accidently dropped the pots and make a beech literati. Didn't OMC start a decidious literati thread ?
