Question Cascade Juniper- Initial Styling

Hi all
With the weather as good as it is at the moment here in England, I could not resist giving this Juniper its initial styling before the winter sets in. No work was done on the roots, hence the large growing box, and the wiring was kept to a minimum to avoid stressing the tree to much.
This is another one of the 10 air-layers from my garden juniper, which have been growing strongly for over 18 months. I have another 7 standing around in pots ready for styling next year. From a suggestion on this froum I am feeling a group planting (yose-ue)coming on.
Anyway, here is the newly styled cascade.
The species is Juniperus squmata Meyerii "Blue Carpet". Total height of the planting is 40cm (16inches)from the lowest tip to the apex. The pot is 20cm (8 inches wide).
I would love to hear your comments and any virtuals (if you have nothing better to do)

Regards

Mike

I'm not sure about this, bt, IMHO, the two cascading branches seem to be too much. Maybe one or the other. How do the roots look?

Hi David

The roots are fine! Two strong surface roots opposite the main cascade and a good spread all around ( although they need to fatten up some). Sorry no photo at the moment as thay are coverd at the moment.
As stated this is an initial styling and one of the branches may well go in the process of refining this tree. I am open to any suggestions.

Regards
Mike

Mike,

The two branches don't bother me, but they cross in a distracting sort of way. Try separating the cascade lines and I think it will flow better.

Best Regards,

David

Hi Mike,

My own personal preference for the front would be the view entitled "Turned 90 degrees to the right" in post #2. It seems to have the best overall look, with the apex being nicely placed. The 2 trunks could easily be re-aligned to harmonise in this view, as David suggests.

Regards,

TB

I think post 2 is the winner, too. You might even try a virtual with one of the cascade lines removed to see if it is even necessary. Maybe the one on the right? I don't know which branches it is supporting, so it would be hard for me to guess.

Regards,

Matt

Just a quick suggestion Mike, if you were to take a couple of extrra photos from post #2 angle, masking each branch in turn with a sheet of paper, then it might be easier to see which branches come from which trunk.

Regards,

TB
