This maple had the same 'problems' a few decades ago.
What's wrong with such a broomform other than that it is not in the books (yet?).

riprap: I like the way you Are going. Is it possible to get some trunk movement, even so lightly as in WAlters last picture? Maybe rafia and heavy wire?

I love your tree. That is the idea I was trying to convey on this thread with regards to working with all the trunks.

However David has done a nice job of removing to middle trunk. Should turn out very good.

Thanks to Walter for posting an inspiring example. I can see the elements of my tree that are like ones in his picture -- and I am greatly encouraged about the future. With a canopy of branches developed well enough, a trunk that goes in one direction for most of its length is not a fatal problem.
