Callistemon- A Native Australian.

i picked this tree up from a local nursery the other day on a table of clearance plants for 3$, i guess that would make it about 1.20$ american or a pound.
i'm not sure how the species will take to bonsai cuture alot of australian natives don't tolerate playing around with the roots to much, but no harm in trying.
i cant find any details on the plant other than it's common name is carrot top, so i assume it's a hybrid.
the local council grows them all over this city and they develop a thick trunk very quickly, tend to have good nebari, have a very nice bark and the new growth is a brilliant red.
thats a beer beside it for scale

after a prune and wire.
i know it needs to go into a grow pot to thicken the trunk and then a pot about 3/4 the size of the one it's in now.
i'm thinking more branches have to come off still and the wiring needs fixing , but it's not bad for an afternoons toiling,
any suggestions?
regards
Odin.

The only piece of advice I can give you with natives is that you should not try and style them in the traditional Japanese forms. That should be very natural in growth. Clip and grow would be better than wiring. Australian natives tend to drop branches when wired.
