Ca. Live Oak

Here is a tree that was originally nursery stock that I have been working with for about 12 years, the trunk is 2inches and the tree is approx 20 in tall. I will appreciate your comments........ripsgreentree

Re: Ca. Live Oak

Rip,

Lovely! That's a hard species to shape, as you well know. I had to leave a wonderful little live oak forest behind in California. I'll try to dig out a photo somewhere.

On your tree, I might consider shortening the first branch, and rounding out the upper canopy somewhat - it's a bit too square for my taste.

Re: Ca. Live Oak

Something like this....

(perhaps with the second branch dropped slightly - I haven't figured out how to do that in a virtual, yet.)

Re: Ca. Live Oak

Mr Crow: Use copy instead of paint. You remove by copying the back ground over the limbs that you are taking off and add in by copying the foliage where you want it. Thanks for the virtual........ripsgreentree

Re: Ca. Live Oak

Nice tree. I would prefer a canopy with a slightly more pointed apex. I think that the lower 2 branches, esp the lowest one should be tilted down to express weight but for the rest I think its a good piece of art

Re: Ca. Live Oak

Great work, Rip! Is this "live oak" even a true oak? It seems to me that the leaves aren't that shape. Well, maybe I'm just so blind.

However, here's my vision of the future of your beautiful oak.

Re: Ca. Live Oak

To all who have replied to this thankyou. Yes it is a true oak including acorns. The reason the leaves look the way that they do is because thay have been reduced in size by about two thirds.............ripsgreentree

Ahh... So it's a true mini-oak. Beautiful!
Aren't oaks slow growers? At least in here they are .

Re: Ca. Live Oak

Zeb: Yes a slow grower and to compound the problem it has spent its entire life in the pot and i only allow two leaves per bud on any given spring. .......ripsgreentree

Re: Ca. Live Oak

I agree with the comments...beautiful tree. I'm also envious because Oak just won't grow here. Tried one, but it died. Too hot and dry, I think.
