moss
Aaguilar: The big secret about moss is time. Many years ago I purchased some japanese moss spores. I spread this on one bonsai and over the years I have transplanted this moss into many pots. Now if I want moss I just peal some from one bonsai to transplant to another. It takes a couple years to establish and fill in. The wonderful thing about this moss is that it will take the heat. Our tempratures have been over 100 and the moss on my bonsai is still lush and green. I will try to attach a photo.

What about the other direction in terms of temperature?
In Ottawa, we get 30-35c weather (like today, ugh) down to -20 or even -30c. Will japanese moss handle cold weather? In the past, i tried using simple collected moss, but it always died on me. I stopped using moss altogether. Sorry for hijacking your thread, but it sort of fits in... Thanks. Groan |

Thanks
Well I don't think that I can get Japanese spores because I live in Guadalajara, Mexico where finding a bonsai pot is almost impossible. The moss I collected was from the street.
Thanks.
