Boxwood - Recent Styling

Hey guys n girls

Last weekend i was trimming my parents boxwoods for them when i saw one with fantastic potential! i think i had noticed it the year before as well but not thought anything of it! Anyway, i went ahead and asked my mom if i could have it to train and lo-and-behold she said yes! im pretty sure she said no last year, go figure!
Anyway, it was a beautiful day and i started by removing as much external foliage as possible without chopping anything major in order to give my self and idea of what i was working with. Once i had done that i could work down the 3 or four main trunks to the point where i was happy leaving them for this year. As you can see from the after pictures, the tree still needs a lot of work if it is to become a convincing raft but im pretty sure it will get there
This box is about 18 years old and now 6 inches high and will hopefully be a raft by the time it is "finished"

Pictures:
Pic 1 - The box in its previous bush form
Pic 2 - The nebari of the box pre-trimming
Pic 3 - The box after its cut back
Pic 4 - The nebari after a repot and root trim
Pic 5 - The back of the box post cut back
Pic 6 - The tray of cuttings i took frm all the boxwoods i trimmed.

Hope ya like it, its got a long way to go but i think it has great potential.

Regards
Rowan

Isn't a raft-styled tree usually created by basically turning a tree on its side and using the newly uprighted branches as new trunks. Would your tree be more of a clump style since the trunk more-or-less originate at the same point?

Hey BonsaiBarry I live in Santa Monica too. Yeah I think that he means something more along the banyan or live oak style.
