Boxwood Group

Hi,

I found this boxwood standing at an nursery that was going to be demolished because of roadworks. Nobody wanted it so I took it home. I did some wiring but couldn't decide how to style it. Recently a bonsai buddy with more experience stopped by and we de-wired and pruned it. I will repot it next spring, give it a year to recover, and then style it. This is how I found it :

This is after the pruning. It has grown a lot of new foliage after the pruning job. Any ideas how to style it ??

regards, René

The foliage is a little lost in the lawn there, so it's hard to see. It looks like you have the beginnings of a clump style, so you might check the gallery for Other trees in clump styles. In the meantime if you have a picture with a less cluttered backdrop, that would be helpful.

Is that a huge inflatable frog in the background?

Regards,

Matt

Rene, I have some rather similar Boxwoods that I rescued from my previous house. I'm impressed with what you have done so far. I've been debating whether to wait until next Spring to do some initial work on them. Your before and after is kind of helpful in thinking about where to go with them.

Hi Fred,

This group has been in this container for a number of years so it's well established. That is why we could do the prune job now. The plant has reacted on it with lots of new growth. I will take it slow from here. Repot next spring, and then wait a year to do the first shaping. The picture doesn't show it very well , but the trunks have a beautiful old gnarled look and I don't want to take any risks. Apart from that it gives me plenty of time to think about the design. Good luck with your boxwoods.

René
