bonsaiTALK Hint: Did you know you can double click any bonsai term on this page for its definition?

Boxwood and an Azalea

Here are a couple of pictures. The first is a boxwood that i did some fine wiring to this weekend and the second is an azalea i bought. I've been wanting an azalea and i believe the azalea is my first bonsai. Not a pre bonsai or a stick in a pot...Yeah!!!! It looks a bit leggy. I'm not going to do anything to it till may or so (after it flowers) and i think they back but really well...right? So hopefully i can get it a bit more compact.

You have some nice stock that will progress toward finished bonsai a lot more quickly than a "stick in a pot." Still, I think I would lower the apex in both cases.

Thanks, Where would you lower the apex to? The Azalea is about 2 1/2 feet tall and the boxwood is about a foot.

How about cutting back to the first branch of the box, then cutting to the second branch of the other.I notice in your pic we can't see the base and trunk of the boxwood.

I'm sorry, but i'm not going to cut them back that much (at least not yet). I think i'm going to leave them the height they are and see if i can get the azalea to become a bit more compact, and the boxood i'm going to let the pads develop and see what it looks like after that.

Thanks for the input.
