Bonsai Society Of Victoria Annual Show - Oct 1 & 2.
Gday all - especially those of you in Melbourne and surrounds!
Just a quick note to mention that the Bonsai Society Of Victoria is holding its Annual Show this weekend (Oct 1 & 2, 2005). Co-inciding with this event is the ABC Gardening Australia Festival at the Caulfield Racecourse, which is not far from the Glen Eira Arts Centre. I will be making every effort to attend at least the Annual Show, and if time and money permits, the Gardening Festival. Hope to see you there - I'll be the grumpy looking guy. Thanks. Fly. [EDIT]PS: I hope to gain permission to photograph the BSV Show, with a view to posting a review here at BT.[EDIT]

By the way - I'm a bit surprised that nobody involved in BSV has posted a link to the Annual Show (at least so far as I can find). I assume we have some BSV members on board...

I was there
Well i was there and the trees where spectacular
I went ont he Sunday when all the trade table was basically empty, so i missed out I spent 6hrs on the Saturday at the Caulfield Racecourse handing out brochures for the show - so i sacrificed 4 the greater good of the club. I handed out over 250 leaflets and about 80% i sincerely think would have tracked across to the show It was again an excellent show with a mass of trees to drool over - I suppose i would like to support the Geelong Show which kicks off Saturday November 5th - 6th For more information contact 5256 1490 ![]() |

Due to prior work committments i was unable to attend our show this year, the first time in many. I look forward to seeing Flybri's photos of what is considered to be Australias' Premier Bonsai show. Regards Ash

Hmmm...
Gday team!
It is with a great sense of regret and shame that I admit that my pics of the BSV Annual Show are crap. I've just gotten the hang of taking flash photos against a black background, but the white walls of the old Caulfield Town Hall, my camera, and myself personally were not up to the task at hand. I hesitate to show my pics for the fact that they would not do the artists or their trees any justice. My first photographic exposé is a failure. ![]() That said, the Show itself was truly inspirational. (At this point I must own up to having only attended two Bonsai shows in my life, and the first was the same show last year.) Highlights were an enormous Banksia serrata (informal upright), a couple of fat-bottomed Tridents and one brilliant Hawthorne. There were a handful of really nice Wisterias in bloom, and I normally am not a fan of Wisteria Bonsai. I shall endeavour to clean up the pics as best I can and post them. I purchased $60 worth of stock - all in the one pot. It is a 3-trunked Lilly Pilly of some sort, with surface roots like I've never seen before. I think a few folks there were ready to lynch me as I left the building... Brendan - sorry if I elbowed you out of the way when I was looking at the stock table. Ash - wish you could have been there. Now all that's left to do is implore the BSV to do something about their website and general promotion of the event... Later all - dinner's ready! Fly.
