Hi Bonsai Addicts!
I just wanted to share some of the projects I'm up to and see what you think.
This one has been around for about 12 years.

A couple of tridents I had in the ground for about 8 years.
They slept late last year (like until late July) but this year they're right on time!

John,
Those junipers are looking good. You should put a lot of work into getting cleaner looking folage pads now on them. Therse will turn out excellent with more pinching and tidying up. This also goes for the shimpaku. Just needs tidying up. The tridents have very nice movement and should turn out to be nice trees as well. Thanks for sharing a nice selection of trees.

I've been pinching away at them for years!
They actually look better in person, the photos don't show any depth.
It took years to get the foliage in so close to the trunk to begin with!

Those tridents look especially nice. I thought they were palmatums because of the movement.

If you pinch the first year and get some closely spaced buds, you can let the terminal branches grow the next year (those original buds won't change spacing.

That way you can build some primary branch size. If it has really been years, you could have some nice branching by now.

Regards,

Matt

Those maples slept really late last year.. until last July!
This year they seem to be ok.

When I planted them in the ground way back when I wired the little trunks to create the curves. After the first few months the wire was removed and the trees allowed to grow to about 7-8 ft before trimming them down. Then they were aloowed again to grow tall and wide. I didn't do the board thing at the base or else I think they'd be thicker. I do have a selection of 12 more trees planted using a board at the base growing right now.

I'm glad you like the curves!

I will be pinching as soon as I'm sure they're fully healthy. If they're not I will leave them alone until next year.
