It looks like an Italian Stone Pine to me. There is a thread on it here:

http://forum.bonsaitalk.com/showthr...=&threadid=1284

If you bought it as a bonsai starter kit, it may be Jack Pine, although I have never seen one, they are a common seed in those kits.

Regards,

Matt

Thanks for the suggestion, I will read that thread! What do you think of my 'tree'? What should I do with it? Put it in a bigger pot? I've read about chopping the top off to make the trunk (?) bigger? Thanks!

I would do what I do with my black pines, plant them outside and let there trunks grow.

Let it grow outside would be difficult, at least in the 'open ground'... I live on an appartement :-)

Bmaster, I'd be thinking "Growbox". I've planted a number of trees in growbeds (the ground) this year as well as a number in growboxes. I don't see all that much difference in their rates of development. Growboxes are simple and can be constructed from wood or from plastic washbasins or storage boxes with holes drilled in their bottoms. Only trick is to make them relatively shallow and reasonably spacious. The soil I'm using is very coarse; about 1/2 small lava rock, 1/3 bark based mulch and 1/6 garden soil. Main thing is to make sure it drains fast between the particles but holds water in the particles. Large clay flower pots work fine, also, but I'm getting away from them because in this area they break up during the winter.

Good luck, Fred
