Bonsai House - Review

In the spirit of other bonsai nursery reviews I thought I would take you to a little house here in Michigan that sits on Inkster Road, just south of Joy Road in Westland, Michigan.

It's an unassuming little house, with a single sign and some overgrown weeds here and there. If you are not looking for it, you'd never notice it at all. -MORE-

It is run by a sweet lady named Preeya who seems quite willing to go out of her way to answer any questions you may have and is also not afraid to set you straight on any misconceptions you may have. The prices are very reasonable, the stock is fantastic, the selection of pots, books, and rocks is amazing. The advice is priceless and it is the only place around where you can find the elusive 1/8 inch sized lava rock and the pre-sifted uncomposted fir bark that many bonsaists around here use.

For more info you can call Preeya directly at 734-421-3434.

Preeya also has the most amazing thing growing along side of her driveway. A Bald Cypress! Yes, it has been growing there for seven years, every since she remodeled her display area and planted it out there, only to forget about it. A Bald Cypress growing outside in Michigan.

All in all a vist to the Bonsai House in Westland, Michigan is well worth the trip if you are in the area. The advice is golden and friendly, the selection is huge and the prices are reasonable.

Gee Will, maybe you should see if she has a room for rent. Seems like with gas around $2.25 a gallon you could save more money for bonsai stuff that way!!!

Great photos. I love to see other operators.

I have been to bonsai house many times . . . in fact, its the only bonsai specific retailer that I ever go to. Preeya is very nice and I have complete faith in the advice she offers. Plus her prices and selection are fantastic . . . . especially on pots!

I definitely reccomend a stop by if you are in the area!

Preeya is one of the "Good Guys" even though she is a gal. I have known her for over twenty years and she will not put the screws to you. Yes if you are in the area you must go visit her you will not be sorry. Buy a pot while you are there, or so volcanic gravel, or some turface, or pine bark or a nice indoor tree. She sells mostly indoor trees and she can tell how best to grow them, she does stock some outdoor material in the outside nursery. In fact one of the Shimpaku Junipers in my gallery was grown for her from one of the Shimpakus she had as stock.

She also has almost every copy of Bonsai Today except maybe some of the more sought after editions. Tools, good tools. All of the above is over shadowed by her hospitality and friendliness.
