It's not a very good picture, but this was the maple in April of 2004 (this first year in that l. blue Albright pot). You are correct about the tendency to be apex weak. This bonsai is roughly 20" high, but much wider. It is not in exhibition quality, as I have worked on it to improve the apex at the cost of better overall design. I will try to take a photo of it soon.

that would be ONE EXPENSIVE TREE!!!!!!!!!!!! not one person in australia sells this kind of maple........ keep it up, thats a rare Gem! |

Another maple that appears to be "basally dominant" (Like Satsuki are) is the Ara Kawa (corkbark) Maple. great care needs to be taken to protect the apex. John
