Black pine

here is yet another plant in my collecton. . I got this guy in the field last year and just potted it and styled it about a month ago. I know i should have put it in a more masculine pot, but i didn't have one. It will eventually be in one. What do you think?
Any virtual recreations?

Re: Black pine

Just... it is much easier to make virts, if the background's solid in color.

All of your trees seem to be quite beautiful. How long have you been doing bonsai? I've only did it for one year, but I've read at least ten bonsai books and a lot of info on the net.

Unfortunately I'm living in a country without bonsai nurseries and I have to do bonsai out of normal garden stock only.

Re: Black pine

I like like it. I take it the lower most branch is a sacrifice branch, it's a little low to be the first branch. i'd eventually take that branch off along with the lowest most back branch and make the branch on the left side the first branch.

I have the perfect pot for that pine sitting on a shelf in my basement.
It's this Tokoname.

Re: Black pine

I can usually find something to say about most trees but it seems like to comment on yours is to belabor the point. We all have opinions but all of the trees you have posted are beautiful. I tend to favor a more compact growth so it I were going to do anything it would be to really look at them and see if I can shorten them up somehow. But that is picking at gnats. All of the trees are very nice and I don't think many people are going to be able to do virtuals and drastically change the course you have set.

Thanks for sharing.

Re: Black pine

Just wait a couple years and that pine will fill in nice and u should then have an excellent specimen. Also when it's in a more masculine pot. I really like Garys pot, mabey you should shoot for something like that.

Re: Black pine

Do you think it would look better in Gary's pot ,or how about an even more masculine pot, such as a square pot with sharp edges?

Re: Black pine

It has a feminine shape so I think a round-edged pot would be best. The curves are very soft.

Here I have jin-ed the first branch and allowed the first on both the left and right to grow. The left branch has also been lowered a bit. That is an important branch and needs to oppose the direction fo the trunk a bit more.

Some back branching might make the appearance more three-dimensional, and a new couch is all it takes!

Re: Black pine

I like Matt's idea. I took it a step further and eliminated the brance on the inside curve too.

Re: Black pine

And maybe lower that one branch on the right a bit.

BTW, I like the pot choice Matt!
