Well, errrmmm... this is kind of painful... We collected this tree in spring. It had a great flat rootball because it was growing on top of a sawed of trunk of a tree. We put it straight into the ground in my father-in-laws garden. Then my father-in-law treated it just like his vegetable garden and overwatered it. I'm talking about three buckets of water a day... So it got rootrot an died. Bummer, it had a fantastic nebari.... As a result of this my father-in-law got so scared of overwatering my plants ( I have a small patch of their garden for my trees in training ) that he underwatered and I lost a very nice hornbeam... I can't blaim him for it, I should go and see my stuff more often...

regards, René

Kevin,

The digging actually wasn't much of a problem because it was growing on top of an old stump so the rootball was very flat. I think we lifted it in maybe a half hour. If it would have been growing in a normal way it would have taken much longer. For example, I dug up this yew two years ago and it took me about 2 1/2 hours to get it out of the ground. Man that one made me sweat.....

Rene, bad luck on losing the yew.
How recently did you collect the 2 1/2 hr yew? Has any styling etc been done to it yet?

Hi David,

This yew is doing fine ! I put it in a bonsai pot 1 1/2 years ago. In the beginning of this year I worked on the deadwood and styling of the foliage will begin in the fall of this year. I think this will be a good one. Here's a picture just after potting in a bonsai pot. The amount of foliage has doubled since then.

regards, René

Great tree to work on. Its going to be a big project. Its good you have pictures from when you first got it. This has potential to be an excellent specimen. I'm jealous.
