Big juniper redo

Here's an old friend back after a redo. I became bored with the lotus pot it was in and decided a drastic change was necessary.
This is a very special pot that I've had sitting on the shelf for a couple of years. I'm certain there will be various and sundry reactions to this combination, but I'm very happy with it.
The pot is 37 inches long and the tree is 38 inches tall from the pot rim.
BTW the juniper was dug up from a landscape about 20 years ago. The trunk has been reduced to a fraction of what it once was.

Mike,
I think this pot is a nice anchor for that tree. I like it!
Do you have a before picture?

Adam, this picture was taken a year ago at the Bonsai Society of San Francisco display at the San Francisco Garden Show.

Mike,

Why did you take this sudden step in changing this tree completely?
What style do you want to make this tree now? Was it a Literati style a year ago?

Maybe I don't agree with your changes at this point, so I hope you will answer the questions above, maybe than I'll get the insides I need for understanding.

regards Wessel

Hi Wessel
It seems to me that when the tree was in the lotus pot, the foliage arrangement over the pot was appropriate. With the new pot and it's very strong horizontal movement, arranging the branches in more of a windswept style that follows the pot movement is more appropriate.
I don't really see this tree as a literati style in the classic sense because the trunk is too heavy, especially at the base. However, one wouldn't be too far off calling it a literati windswept style, or bunjin-fukinagashi in Japanese.
I hope that this helps make sense of this tree.

Regards

Mike
