Paul, I like where you are going with this. I've wodered how seriousy Barberry is to be taken for Bonsai use. Do you know how long lived it is and whether it is subject to branches dying back? This specimen reeally looks excellent.

Hi Fred,
Glad you like it. Still a ways to go tho. The barberry is something that has its place in gardens primarily as hedges. I cant tell you how long they live, but I am assuming it is a hardy aging plant. The wounds harden up, I have a tendency to just break the trunks down to get that jagged appearance, and will slightly Dremel the rest down as needed. The root balls can be whacked back by half, and the roots are generally fibrous so that is a bonus. I have three in my collection besides this one, however still potensai material. Here are the others.

another barberry with much potential. This is after a cleanup last week. I am gonna wait for some side branching to emerge before I go any further with removing anything big right now. The barberry is a plant that loves to sucker (((basally which lends itself to clumps))).

Paul, I like how the first one looks, and I think you are heading in the right direction with the virtual.
