Backyard Mystery

Anybody know this plant? It's evergreen. It was growing wild in my back yard a couple of years ago when I collected it. It grows like a weed (maybe it is ). My nuseryman thinks it's an azalea, but I kind of doubt it.

I collected it because I saw some potential for a mame or shohin in it. I may eventiually stick it back in the ground or a grow box, or...put it in the round file...

I do wonder what it is though.

It needs lots of water, does well in part shade, and seems to like the basic soil mix it's in. Growth tends to be apical and I really have to keep on top of it.

Photo might not be helpful-I'm working on that.

P.S. The leaves look a bit like boxwood but they're thin and soft.

I have never seen a flower or a nut on this plant. Of course, before I collected it, it was always stripped by the weed eater so it might not have ever had a chance to produce anything.

See above added pics.

That looks very similar! We have alot of them that grow like weeds around here. I'll have to look at some of the more "established" ones to see if they fruit and flower.

The foliage looks very similar to my green mountain boxwood's immature foliage. The bark looks quite different however from what I see.

Regards,
Mark

Mark;

Yes they do look very similar to a box but they are much thinner and softer than box leaves. I'm pretty sure privet is the correct ID.

Thanks everyone.
