Hi Guys,
These are one of my favorites. The 2 shown in this thread appear to be Japanese imports, grown for many years to develope the trunks. In Japan they were a separate from bonsai, potted plant culture for about 300 years. I believe it was called "Meika". The shape was like Marge Simpsons hair, LOL. In the early 1900s they started makeing a crossover into bonsai but the other culture still exists as well.

Bob you'r wright My Nikko is in the meika style it's different than most bonsai styles, satsuki are grown for the flowers and the meika style show them at there best.

Hi Guys,
Satsukes like the 3 large ones shown in this thread are probably imports, grown for many years developeing the trunks. They began entering bonsai culture in the early 1900s.
They were grown in a separate potted plant culture in Japan. I believe it is called "Meika". The shape was developed to maximize show of blooms and kind of looks like Marge Simpson's hair. LOL
