OK, here is my two cents. I like this tree alot. I prefer the 'side' view (post #3) as the possible front. Reason, Azaleas that I have seen do not have as wonderful a Nebari as this one does viewed from the side. The tree has good movement and taper, although not wonderful, is ok. If developed with this as the new front, you could have one heck of a tree in a few years (ok several years)..... NICE FIND!!!

Post # 3 has the trunk inclined away at about 30 degrees. It looks like the rootage is also good in the "front" and "rear" views. Hands obscure a clear view of #1, but I would say #2 is definitely it. For best results, repot azalea just at the end of flowering (which, BTW, marks the end of dormancy in most all species)

Regards,

Matt

Remeber azaleas are weaker on the top, so, you may want to wait and see what survives on top after it fullyt recovers -- I wouldn't do anything to it 'til next spring. Great raw material

Maybe this should be another thread. Matt if you know where this should be then you can redirect it.

Anyway, isn't there a way that you can cause an azalea to flower?

I heard that some florists will stick it in a fridge for ____ amount of time and then the blooms burst forth.

Anyone have a clue if this is true or not?

Thanks,
H

Harold: It is possible to advance or delay azalea blooms by a week or so. I've had good success delaying blooms for a week to get azalea blooms timed for a show - by refrigerating about a month before I want the blooms for two weeks. Much ore than that, I'don't think is possible but ... Here's a picture after the delay, and at the show

what an awesome azalea. I live in Florida, but all the azaleas I see at the nurseries look like spindly nothings. The trunk on this one is inpressive. It is probably faux pas to ask, but would you email me privately as to where in Florida you found this future specimen?
