Auction Finds
I attended the Bonsai Society of Dallas Auction Last Thursday, and I think I came away with some real good auction bargains. The first you may remember from the gallery on this forum:
http://pictures.bonsaitalk.com/show...&cat=all&page=1 Here it is today. It has had a bit of a hard summer at the previous owner's new residence, and he decided to put it up for auction to find it a more suitable home. Lucky me. I will clean it up, and cut it back next spring, and soon will have it looking great once again.

Here is another zelkova I got. This rough stock will make two nice trees with a layer of the trunk. What do you think?

This is a chinese elm forest. I plan to completely rework this one in the spring. I think it will make an excellent forest planted out on a slab. Now all I need to do is find the slab!

Last but cetainly not least, is this excellent procumbens juniper. It needs to be opened up a little. I will spend some time studying this one, probably select a new front for it.

Go going Ralph,
I hope that the auction was real success and that the club and all made some money for your programs. I tried to get the Ashe Juniper that was shown in the same thread, but it found a home elsewhere. Maybe next year I will have my work sxhedule figured out better so I don't have meetings on the afternoon of the auction. I really like the procumbens. John |

Nice material Ralph. Sounds like a great time. I think club auctions are among the best places to find bargain priced, quality material.

Really nice trees Ralph. It seems that I am always a day late on these things.
Good for you man. Peace Bob

Nice score Ralph, I agree with John that's a real nice juniper. The zelkova and elms are sweet too. It looks like you're going to be busy come spring time. Good luck with them they all appear to have a lot of potential.

I can't emphasize enough to those new to bonsai and not with a club yet. This auction, I am sure is like in any bonsai club auction in the world, and the material will cost you far less than anywhere else you are likely to find it.
If you want great material at a great price, join your local club. If you want first hand advice by expert artists experienced with growing in your environment, join a club. If you want the comraderie and friendship of like minded individuals, join a club.

Speaking of slabs, does anyone know of a proprietor of such? I am considering anything as of this moment, stone, ceramic, any suggestions, perhaps internet links to making one?
Thanks
