Apolinario Cruz Bonsai

Apolinario (Poll) is an acomplished artist in many fields from Painting to Sculpture. He ia also a self taught bonsai artist of some years. I introduced myself to him a few years ago.
He has welcomed me to this art and his collection.
His passion for bonsai has been a very personal one with no input from any source except from some books.
He has bravely agreed to have me post his trees here to be critiqued by us and he is looking forward to our coments. He has invented some intresting techniques in the cultivation of natives.

I had a mess up with the camera today so I only have one picture to choose from.

I will post more pictures including species that will be of interest to Australian native growers during the week giving us a chance to comment on each. I will also elaborate on his techniques and pass on any questions. You may also be interested in some of his stone carvings and pottery art.

Poll is taking a intresting step with his paintings at the moment with an exibition staged in Paris. He leaves next weekend for a couple of months and we would appreciate any information on must see bonsai destinations in that area.
Any Ideas are much apreciated

First up is a fig. It is a bugger of a picture quality but a little taste for now.
The rocks you see on the soil surface of his pots are there to help keep the roots cool. Sometimes these cover so much you can't even see the soil. When asked how he knows when to water he suggests he just knows. This experience can only come with the time he has put into his trees.

Soltan,

a partial list

Events:

In the following weeks/months in France, he could visit:

The 20th anniversary of a local club, with a special exhibition

The Monaco club exhibition from the 7th to the 11th of June.

Many local clubs will also have their summer exhibition in the coming weeks.

There is a satsuki event in Paris until the 8th of June, at the "Parc Floral". He unfortunately missed the yearly satsuki show at Lodders.

There will be a very interesting workshop on June 21/22 in Lorient, but language might be an issue.

As far as I know, there is close to no events whatsoever in July and August.

He will also miss this even tho it is in Italy.

Depending on his schedule, it could also be possible to go to Ginkgo or Bauwens in Belgium... Paris to Brussels is about 1 hour in Thalys train.

Hope that helps,
Michael

Much apreciated thanks Michael.
I spent some time looking for translations of some of the pages last night.
I think Ginko and Bauwens would be a must.
The 20th anniversary of Monaco club would be good if he can make it.
I tried to find a translation of the website you posted but I was unable.
I can only guess that the adress for the exibition is
Maison Rousseau, rue JJ Roussesu 78370Plaisir
Club Les Amis du Bonsai Plaisir.
Could you elaberate on this or correct me please.
Thanks

Soltan,

You guessed correctly.

Plaisir isn't far off Paris if I recall correctly. There will be demos, a special exhibition for their 20th anniversary (anybody is invited to bring their 2 or 3 best trees). It might be a fun event to visit.

Visiting this guy would also probably interest your friend, but I'm not sure he'll be available for a visit and getting to his place can be quite a trip. Let me know if Poll is interested, I can always ask Patrice if he's available for a visit.

I am sure Poll would be very intrested in Patrice Bongrand work.
But it sounds like his place may be out of his reach on this trip.
Hmmm
I will show Poll his work tomorrow and pass on Patrice's contact details that I found on the website and leave it up to Poll to decide what to do.
Thanks kindly

It is pretty dry out here.
Poll with his Queensland bottle tree that he has succesfully taken cutting the size of your wrist or a little bigger.
