Another small trident- root over rock

Hi, here is another trident we picked up down south. Tridents grown way down south tend to look a little rough earlier than up north. This tree is in a 25x16x23/4" Tokoname exhibition pot and weighs about 75-80 lbs. The rock is non acid-treated ibigawa. It is a beast- and yes that is a litle pond in the rock in the first picture. Will be restyling to make more compact in the spring, thought the roots might be alittle straight, so have thought about grafting rooted cuttings on. Any ideas?. John

John,

Great Material, as is the Trident in the other thread. (What a trunk !)

Noticed your BC in the background of these shots. Any more pictures of that beauty ?

Hope you still have that BC in the ground with MY NAME on it !

Best Regards,
Ian.

Ian, thanks it is nice to be able to find material that others have put so much time into basic development. The cypress in the background is one I have worked on for a couple of years. It is a nice specimen, "your" tree is doing fine, waiting for leaf drop and all. John

In the Spirit of "Smoke' (aka Al keppler) I am trying to update some of the trees that I have posted over the past few years to show how they have progressed.

This trident was moved to Arkansas from the Houston area (in between Katrina and Rita). My efforts have been primarily to increase the density of foliage and to shorten the branches. The tree has been reduced in height from 34' to 28" over the past two years. Will be repotted this winter.

The rock (ibigawa) is 14" wide at it's widest point.

John

Really great tree. I love the rock and the "pond" in it! You mentioned that you thought the roots were too straight, and you might root graft... any more news on that? Or have you decided to leave it?

What a nice tree! The rock is so awesome too. If you could substitute another rock in there some how, then the rock would make a great suiseki by itself. I think the rock must be worth what ever you paid for the whole tree.
Thanks for showing it.
