Another project for today. Fat Boxwood

This box needed some trimming and lime-sulfer. The trunk measures about 18 inches around the base and stands about 15 inches from the pot rim.

That trunk is HUGE. I would guess the tree underwent some canopy reconstruction many moons ago? The reason I ask is that I have a couple of older Kingsville (perhaps 30-35 yrs) that have very different branching than yours, but the trunks are mere sticks compared to yours. Is the difference styling, or Kingsville vs. non-Kingsville, or just different by happenstance?

The pic below is my smaller one, but you can see what I mean about the canopy differences.

My boxwood is an old buxus japonica that was part of a hedge for at least 75 years. That's how the trunk got so fat. You'll never see a Kingsville like that unless you plant it in the ground and live to be 200, or more.
Your Kingsville looks good. The trunk and branching are what would be expected for one that age.
