American Elm Forest

I started this forest in january of this year from some suckers taken from a elm stump I had collected.

This is the first planting.

I'm having fun playing with this little forest (my first attempt).
Maybe some day I'll even buy a pot for it.

Here's a pic for size refrence.

Thanks for looking!

Good work Jay. You've got your hands full there with much future prunning. What was your technique removing them from the stump?

Thanks Tom and Camay,
I'm hoping that after another couple of growing seasons I'll have learned enough to develop a believable canopy on this learning forest. It grows so fast that it is hard to keep up with.

Here's a picture of one of the stumps I took the suckers from.

Most of them had at least a root or two but a couple of them were just cut off with no root at all. I just took a chisel and sliced them off at the trunk line. I only lost one little shoot . The rest as you can see took off nicely. I've been suprised at how well it's doing for being only six months old.
