Air Layer Demo

During our club evening yesterday, one of our members ( Bart ) did a demo on airlayering.
This was the victim. A japanese maple.

Next, Bart used some plastic mesh to make a sort of second pot around the wound

It was filled up with pure akadama. Spagnum moss or cocopeat will work too

Now all you have to do is water. Keep the soil wet. After about 5 or 6 months new roots will have formed. You can then cut the trunk under the newly formed roots and put the whole lot in it's own container.

Nice photo sequence, Rene! Thanks for posting.

That's a grafted Acer palmatum shishigashira. I'm surprised - he seems to have taken the layer below the graft line. Did he say why?
