That will surely cause roots to grow
Now this method will not only work here
But it will work in Galveston...............

You can duplicate that with constant misting, or wrap the branches with wet sphagnum moss as if doing an air layer (but no cutting!). http://www.bonsaihunk.us/BanyansStranglerEpiphytes.html
