This is very nice material that you have here, very good foliage. What I would do - I would choose a front for the tree and the trunk line (you choose the line that YOU prefer) and try to make a rough pencil drawing how the trunk and the branches could be bent and arranged to get a small tree that looks ancient (probably some twists in the trunk, branches hanging downwards from their own weight as well as of the snow) you have to balance the tree so the size of branches would correspond the size of the tree and so on. If you don't like what you get at the first attempt, make several scenarios. You better make mistakes on paper than on a tree such nice.

You don't have to make the tree look like some monster, there are some basic styles (I would rather call them "directions"), one of which you can choose to be as the basic style for you tree (you can review the styles here the one I would not advise for your tree is broom). But I would just imagine a natural tree (perhaps you see one through your window, otherwise you could make a search for "bonsai inspirational images" on this forum or review the BT gallery), perhaps with some exageration :-)

Then I would get some real bonsai wire (you can get aluminum bonsai wire at most bonsai shops/nurseries, I would recommend aluminum since it's easier to work with than copper wire). And then try to first arrange the trunk (with a stronger wire) and then in turn - the branches (with a thinner wire). Make the tree 3-dimensional, i.e. the branches go not only to to left and right, but also back. On wiring technique - read www.bonsaiprimer.com, it has very good basics.

Good luck

K.

a single trunk

I envision a single trunk for this tree with the other lower trunks first being wired so as not to cross the main trunk, then jinned.

Branch selection going up the main trunk line will be as in the #1, #2, #3, positions radialy around the tree. Reduce some of the foliage at the top to suit proportion.

Sketching your tree is important to foresee a "style" and future branch placement.

Good luck, keep us posted on your progress, .....Hector
