Mike...

I would rather take a chance on the wood, than lose it all together. Daniel has some techniques to deal with preserving the wood if/when it starts to turn, so I have options against eventualities... not to mention.... a lost limb is just a fabulous reason to make a hollow should the need arise....

Every lost branch on a tree is a styling opportunity which should not be squandered.

Thank you for the thoughts on the repotting. I'll keep all of that in mind. I certainly have no issue with exercising patience with the roots if the spring shows a lack of healthy roots.

I have watered this tree and the drainage is appropriate btw... For a tree of this size... the timing of the water flowing through the pot was exactly what I would expect.

It's very nice to have an experienced local perspective.... thank you so much for that.

As to your friend/acquaintance who is ill... maybe you could tell him that you think it has found a good home... and that it will be cherished. That may just brighten his day.

Kindest regards,

Victrinia

Begining of Fall Color

Just wanted to bump with a bit of a taste of fall color. This isn't a great shot as I lack the photographic skills of my cohort.

Crispums turn late in Fall (end of Oct early Nov) and this tree is in the process of turning. Later this weekend it will be better photographed by Vic. By then it should be fully turned we hope.

C...

It is grand. A truly worthy first tree for Ang3l. I wait with great eagerness to see what he will make of it. He has Daniel and I to keep an eye on him... but it's his tree to work. I wish I would have had a tree like that when I started...lol But then again, that's what Daniel has been hammering into my head. Start with something marvelous to encourage the passion of the newer learner.

Glad you like it. I'll get some nice photograps of it this weekend if the weather plays nice.

Warm regards,

Victrinia

A really nice tree Vic. Isn't it nice to have a tree that just looking at it makes you feel good inside, and at the same time your brain comes up with a lot of " what if's"? We should all have at least one tree that makes us both feel and think. Good luck with it and thanks for the fall color pic, Larry

Ms. Vic,
Congrats to both of you. This tree may become something very special, perhaps even famous some day. I agree with the earlier assessment about the pot. One of the reasons the roots from the nebari make a knuckle appearance is because the tree has been in too small a pot for too long. This should be easily corrected in time. Something shallower and wider will not only show off the nebari better, but actually make it a better nebari as the tree grows out instead of down.

Glad to see you have a student's heart and are taking to heart the things your teacher is giving you. You are progressing very quickly, grasshopper.

I would definitely love to see this one naked. I have my doubts about deadwood on deciduous trees, but I will reserve judgment until I see the end product.

Ang3l, great good luck and fortune to you!
